From experience…(Observing her)
Thursday, September 3, 2009
I know this look:
fixed on a distance,
eyes
drowning in a promise of tears
when her mouth barely quivering
forces a pathetic smile
for no one.
I know this gasp
with the tilted back head
as if to keep your mouth above the waterline
should her feet
not reach
the escaping/evasive/elusive bottom of the lake
within the next step.
I’ve been to this lake.
