Election: Obama

It’s official: Barack Obama has won the presidency.
Of course, this is all in the soft folds of my own brain, but what matter? I’m declaring right here and now that he’s going to win. If he loses, I will eat my words and apologize.
But here’s the thing: He BETTER not! Because more than a third of my life has been spent under an administration whose greed and short-sightedness has not yet truly been revealed, and I can’t afford that percentage to get any higher. I have kids to think about (someday). College to pay for. Things to do. Heck, I would love the earth to still be around when I’m of retiring age, living a fairly comfortable life without worry of our planet being turned into a smoking ball of black death.
Because in the back of my mind, that is something I truly fear with a McCain/Palin administration. I fear that people who have a mind to destroy the world may do so someday, and at that point our nation’s strong-arm tactics of the last few generations won’t do any good.
We don’t need a leader whose blind arrogance leads them to conclusions without considering circumstance, and we certainly don’t want a second-in-command whose biggest claim to fame is 2 years in the governors’ office (and an ethics violation to boot).
How much longer are we going to live under an umbrella of fear? Fear of socialism, fear of Islam, fear of the world we know turning into a smoking ball of death… and yes, I’m aware that I used that metaphor – hopefully it will stay as such – just moments ago, but it’s based on historical fact, not hysterical farce.
Saying we can expect from a McCain administration an economy whose gains go to the top and whose losses go to the bottom is not out of the question. And furthermore, it’s not out of line to suggest a man whose entire life has been dictated by the military may be reckless and use force in a situation that will blow up in our faces, much like Iraq.
I just want to go to bed at night and not think entire nations aren’t pissed at us for being the prideful, unilateral land-grabbing and resource-snatching thieves that we so clearly have become.
Does this mean I don’t love my country? No, it means I don’t like the way we’ve behaved. And with Obama, I feel it’s at least moving in the DIRECTION of change, if not the change itself.
And for me, that’s more than enough.

You moron. Obama is just another smooth talker who is going to try to get us to sell our liberty and opportunity for “peace” and “security.” And, no, Iraq has not “blown up in our faces.” Just ask a soldier who’s been there.
And considering “change.” Ever stopped to consider if the change Obama is bringing is actually a change for the better? America has a lot of good things going for it. Obama is going to “change” the good things and leave the bad.
