RE: The search for LBCC's next president
The CommuterFriday, May 29, 2009
I find it interesting that no students chose to attend the open session for staff and students as we seek to find a successor for President Cavin. When was that meeting? I can’t recall being informed it would happen, and perhaps that is the case with other students who would like to have participated. Was there an e-mail to students? Was faculty/staff informed in some way we were not? Regardless of the reasons I was not informed of the meeting until after the fact, thankfully the Commuter is providing students with a forum to have our voices heard. There are several traits and skills I believe our next president should possess. First, our president should be an effective leader, able to delegate duties, coordinate efforts and build consensus. Second, our next president should be willing to make the right choice, which may often be the hard choice, instead of the popular choice. These are the traits and skills I believe would be sorely missed if we are not careful to include them as criteria in the candidate selection process. These are traits and skills possessed by President Cavin, and I believe this is why our school is not in as severe a state of financial distress as are many Oregon community colleges.
Sincerely,
Steve Anderson
