LBCC Classes Filling Fast for Winter Term

The Commuter

Wednesday, December 16, 2009

Registration is still open at LBCC, but classes are filling fast.

Due to the high volume of applications, students who have not started the admissions process by the end of this week, Dec. 18, may not be admitted in time for Winter term, according to an LBCC news release.

All applications received after Dec. 18 will be handled as quickly as possible. For students who are unable to complete the process for Winter term, applications will be processed for Spring term admission, placing students first in line for orientations for that term.

“The record number of students has stretched our limits in admissions, financial aid, and advising,” said Bruce Clemetsen, dean of students. “We have exhausted all of our resources to accommodate the people trying to enter LBCC as new students for winter term, and have added all the placement testing capacity and orientation sessions we possibly can.”

Students can still register for up to 11 credits on a part-time basis for Winter term. Community education and other credit classes may still be available.

According to Bruce Clemetsen, dean of students, staff is busy doing all they can to get students admitted before the college closes for winter break, Clemetsen noted. LBCC will be closed Dec. 21-25 and Dec. 31-Jan. 1.

Winter term begins Monday, Jan. 4.

More than 44 class sections have been added since the fall schedule came out, said Clemetsen. Budget restraints and available faculty to teach more classes limits the college’s ability to add more sections, he said.

Financial aid for students who completed their financial aid application by the priority deadline of Nov. 9 should be available this week. Students who have received a request from the college for more information should respond as soon as possible to the LBCC Financial Aid office. Incomplete files cannot be processed, which will result in funds not being available at the beginning of winter term.
