Thank you letter from Rita Cavin

Dear Community –

Thank you to everyone who made the Green Opening of Madrone Hall so special yesterday. In spite of unfriendly weather, the music, food, poetry, and warm appreciation made the event meaningful and unforgettable to everyone who was there. I just finished a radio interview and commented that Madrone Hall is a shining example to our communities of what we can do with limited resources when the private sector, business sector and public education all work together for the common good – putting aside political labels and local loyalties. We had Democrats and Republicans, friends from both Linn and Benton counties and from city, county, state and federal government all celebrating our success and our future with us yesterday. The representatives from Hewlett-Packard bearing a gift of a $284,000 grant was a highlight of the celebration.

Thank you to our Board of Education and Foundation Board for doing their best to lead LBCC through a period of economic instability and to help our students and community find pathways to a brighter future.

Thank you to everyone in student services, especially financial aid, for helping so many students as they try to find space in winter term, as they find out about unexpected reductions in the Oregon Opportunity Grant, and as they come to us for the very first time. You are our official gateway to hope for those who come to us because they have been laid off.

Thank you to everyone , but most especially to the Career Center staff, who helped make the Youth Job Fair a reality – our partnership with the Albany Chamber of Commerce helped over 1300 students prepare for their future. Not only has the Chamber led this partnership every year for our community, but they showed up with their bright red jackets to help us cut our green ribbon yesterday at Madrone Hall. Thank you, Chamber.

Thank you to everyone at LBCC who has contributed to food drives, toy drives, the Foundation Annual Fund Drive, the United Way, the Salvation Army and ABC House. Every year you astound me with your generosity.

Thank you to the faculty – even though your classes have ended and your grades are in, even though you may not read this until January – whenever you read it, the biggest thank you I can send for taking so many, many students into your classes.

Thank you to everyone at LBCC. Our holiday lights are beautiful and they cast a lovely glow, but they can’t compare to the gifts you give to our community. Have a happy, safe, and healthy holiday season.
