Linn-Benton Community College is working to educate students and staff about existing smoking policies on campus.

The Oregon Smoke-free Workplace Law requires no smoking within buildings or within 10 feet of doorways, windows that open, or ventilation intakes. LBCC has established designated smoking areas and shelters on its campuses.

The Oregon law and LBCC’s smoking policy are designed to reduce the health hazard to individuals in confined public places from inhaling smoke caused by tobacco products.

LBCC has installed additional signage to help direct students and staff to designated smoking areas. Marcene Olson, LBCC safety and loss prevention manager, is asking students and the campus community to help keep the college in compliance by following these suggestions:

● If you smoke, do so only within the designated smoking areas.
● If you see others not complying with the policy, ask them to please comply.
● Ensure cigarette butts are placed only in the ashtrays or cigarette butt containers in the designated smoking area (littering of cigarette butts increases the cost of grounds and smoking shelter maintenance).

If you need assistance with smoking policy issues, contact the LBCC Security Office at 541-926-6855. For more information on the LBCC administrative rule 5045-02 for smoking on campus, visit our web site at http://po.linnbenton.edu/BPsandARs.
