LBCC has already begun showing off its new addition.
Oregon’s speaker of the house, Dave Hunt, was given a guided tour of the new science building, Madrone Hall, on Sept. 25.
The 26,000-square-foot building is 75 percent completed and “on schedule” for a ribbon cutting on Dec. 16, according to Kevin Nicholson, LBCC’s construction project manager.
The building, when finished, is expected to meet the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design’s (LEEDS) silver certification standards and will include a gazebo with solar panels and a 5,000-square-foot green roof made from plant materials.
“We would like for it to be a showcase for new technology,” said Rita Cavin, LBCC president.
According to LBCC’s Executive Vice President Carol Schaafsma, in addition to its new environmentally friendly design features, Madrone Hall will have larger classrooms and increased lab space, two features that will help support a science program that’s growing fast.
Once Madrone Hall is completed, renovations will begin on the connected Science and Technology building (ST).
