Linn Benton Community College would like to introduce your newest resource, Veteran Service Officer (VSO) Gus Bedwell. As your campus VSO, Gus is here to make sure veterans and their families are accessing all the VA benefits available to them. For example, a few benefit options may be medical, service-connected compensation, and dependents’ education. Gus’ job is to help vets and their families to apply, access, or if needed, appeal to the VA for benefits. He is here to work for you. He breaks down VA law into simple terms, in his own words, “making the complicated and complex, simple.” As a LBCC Student Ambassador and your Veteran Representative I urge all current military, spouses and dependents of deployed personnel, veterans, and families of veterans to drop in and chat with Gus. Even if you are not sure whether you could qualify or not, come meet Gus, check in with him, and see what opportunities there are. If you are currently receiving disability compensation, drop by to verify that you are getting what you deserve. Everyone could use another ally. Gus is here to make things easy and efficient for you. For information on how to reach Gus, drop by the Financial Aid Veterans’ window and speak with Kathy Martinak. Kathy will have Gus’s contact information for making appointments. He is available most Mondays at LBCC, from 9 am, in Takena 111 (behind Admissions/Registration).
