Watch out for urban golf

Oregon State University students were out and about on a very sunny Monday afternoon, playing a new up-and-coming sport on Greek row, urban golf.
What is urban golf you might say? Well, it is golf in an urban area, primarily non-busy streets or a nice college campus. It requires a golf club, tennis ball, and friends. The rules are simple: safety first, be cautious of other people, play where it lies, hit the target with fewer strokes than your friends, and most importantly have fun.
Is it legal? The Department of Public Safety and Oregon State Police on Campus seem to think so. “I don’t look at Urban Golf as ‘Oh this is something we shouldn’t be doing’ because it looks fun,” said Sgt. Vonn Schleicher. “As long as it’s not interfering with other peoples’ safety.”
A student bystander who was hit by a tennis ball earlier that day thought it seemed enjoyable but hazardous. “As long as I’m not in the line of fire, I’m ok with it,” said Sierra Lacook, the student who was nailed by a ball.
“I think it’s a good way to get hot girls’ attention!” Devin Hohensee replied, another witness who had observed others playing and was enthusiastic about the rewards of playing urban golf.
It looks as if urban golf is here to stay and can potentially be played anywhere, be it your backyard, the streets, or near Reeser Stadium. Just remember, safety first!
